Behind The Song

Based on a traditional communion song/prayer, several years ago, Gary Rand set those classic words to a simple and haunting tune. It was something many folks grew to love,  it became a mainstay in worship at LaSalle Street Church in Chicago and McCormick Theological Seminary. A couple years ago, though, we decided to rewrite the lyrics and tried to bring a fresh perspective on the old text. The lyrics now reflect on a God who so loves the world and every one of us: "Lamb of God. With love poured out you suffer with the world." This is a song to be sung as a prayer, as a plea, as a hope.
