Justice Begins With Tears

How practicing lament can transform our worship… and maybe even our world.

The journey of lament is about opening our eyes, not just to let the tears flow, but to really see. This session will include a brief survey of the Biblical call for lament, and an overview of what some of today’s key theologians and scholars have to say about lament’s role in the renewal of our worship.

Leslie Michele will offer some powerful examples of how lament has been expressed through Black American musical traditions, and throughout the workshop we will offer ideas on how music and all kinds of art can help in the practice of lament.   This workshop will include discussion, resource suggestions, as well as hands-on opportunities to create some “lament stations” and practice lament together.
